Another handy tool for network discovery is Alloy Discovery (Figure B). Unlike Network View, which focuses primarily on discovery, this tool's main focus is hardware and software auditing.

The MSA Device Discovery Tool discovers MSA storage devices in the network, in the local subnet, and directly attached to a server. Included in the Device Discovery Tool is the ability to: 1. Launch the Storage Management Utility (SMU) for a selected discovered MSA device.2. Launch the Command Line Interface (CLI) or FTP interface for the selected discovered MSA device.3. Schedule a recurring collection of MSA storage log files for the selected discovered MSA device.4. Generate an XML or text informational output report.

The following were included in version 3.4.5.0:

  • Fixed the failure of log collection on Windows 7.
  • Disabling the Discovery button (when the Range based discovery is selected) until the user enters the From IP and To IP
  • Added few more checks to the validateIP function.
  • Added MSA 2040 Support.
The following were included in version 3.3.5.3:
  • Added “Abort discovery” button functionality.
  • Added the “Clear Cache” feature under the menu bar Discovery option.
  • The Settings widget now has an 'Enable Caching' option.
